Translations

(Etheridge) But they were silent: for they had contended in the way one with another, who should be greatest among them.

(Murdock) And they were silent; for by the way they had contended with one another, which should be the great among them.

(Lamsa) But they kept silent, for on the road they had argued with one another, which was the greatest of them.

(KJV) But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.
